Tucked away on the westernmost shores of Malibu, on a bluff ensuring privacy, MariSol is enshrouded in a separate and tranquil world. This is Malibu's rural side, where nature is triumphant. MariSol's eco-developer, in furtherance of resurrecting the land's pristine state, harvested seeds from the property's prominent native species and carefully nurtured them into more than 20,000 plants - re-vegetating this prime Malibu land into an exquisite kaleidoscope of color, texture and fragrant scents. Native trees from nearby coastal locations were carefully relocated to MariSol's bluff, which had been scraped for farming and development in the past century. As a result, MariSol now thrives with more than 2,000 native and other coastal friendly trees - creating a micro-climate which has re-propagated the native flora and fauna as they existed when Frederick Rindge, the father of modern Malibu, lived here. Demonstrating superbly the beauty and harmony of native coastal plant and animal life is MariSol's one-of-a-kind botanical and butterfly garden, a one-acre nature sanctuary registered as an official Monarch Butterfly Waystation in which more than 130 native California plant species flourish. To walk this magnificent garden's trails under the boughs of hundred-year-old specimen coastal oaks and toyons, which supported the Chumash in centuries past on this garden's very grounds, is dreamlike - bolstering the aura that only exists in the nature of MariSol.
Street lights have been eliminated to preserve the star-filled night skies and power poles removed and utilities undergrounded on Pacific Coast Highway and neighboring streets yielding pristine and scenic ocean vistas. Storm water runoff is directed into desilting basins and filtration systems to preserve the quality of the ocean water for the enjoyment of the present and future generations.
The mere act of being at MariSol slows heartbeats and gently melts creases from overstressed brows. It is a luxury refuge of nature untamed where the air and water are pure - and the living, profound. Simply put, if ever there was a setting that retains the true essence of original California, this private, serene stretch of Pacific coastline is surely it.
